Whiplash Damage Repair Naturally in Calgary

Whiplash, Neck Pain, Neck Ache, Neck Trauma, Car Accident RecoveryOne of the most common causes of complaint is neck pain. There are many things that people do regularly that contribute to neck pain, such as:

  • Overuse of smartphones (often called text neck)
  • Poor posture
  • Sitting for long periods of time (usually for work)

It is even possible to end up with arthritis of the neck due to what most people would think of as normal wear and tear.

However, neck pain can also have a sudden and abrupt cause such as when a person experiences whiplash in an accident or injury.

What Is Whiplash?

Whiplash occurs when the neck suddenly extends and then flexes. Sports injuries and car accidents are the most common causes. Connective tissue surrounding the neck and spine can be damaged by a whiplash injury.  While a common symptom of whiplash is neck pain, the damage can be much deeper than that. In fact, many symptoms of whiplash can appear weeks, months, or even years after the trauma. Some additional symptoms related to such injuries are:

  • Headaches
  • Cognitive problems
  • Dizziness
  • Difficulty sleeping

Common whiplash treatments range from medication to control pain and inflammation to cervical collars to restrict movement.

Upper cervical chiropractic can be an integral part of the recovery process after a whiplash injury. Such an injury can easily cause a misalignment of the uppermost vertebrae in the neck. When these vertebrae are out of alignment, the symptoms can include all of those listed above and many others.

At Natural Way Chiropractic, we use the Blair Technique to identify and correct misalignments of the upper cervical spine. This can help to repair the underlying damage done by whiplash injuries.
