Sleep Right to Minimize Neck Pain

Neck Pain, Neck Ache, Headache, Headaches, Migraine, Migraines, Neck Injury, Neck Trauma,Neck pain can be caused by any number of things such as an accident, injury, or even just being hunched over an electronic device for too long. You may, however, notice that your neck is the stiffest when you wake up in the morning. This could be because of your sleep position. Here are a few ways to minimize neck strain while sleeping.

How Sleep Position Affects the Neck

Sleeping on your back with the right pillow is the best way to sleep. You don’t want the pillow to prop your head up too much, but it should not be completely flat either. While this is the best position for your neck, you may want a pillow behind your knees to avoid lower back strain. Sleeping on your side is also okay for your neck, but pillow choice is again key. You need to be elevated slightly more when on your side than when sleeping on your back. Again, you don’t want to have your pillow be so big that your head is tilted to the side all night. You also don’t want a flat pillow that causes your head to be tilted toward the bed for 8 hours. A pillow between your knees will protect your lower back. However, if it’s the only way you can sleep, you can lessen the degree of strain by using a body pillow to proper yourself up as much as possible. The less your head is turned, the less strain will be placed on the muscles.
