TMJ, Jaw Pain, Facial Pain, Jaw Ache, Mouth Pain, Cheek Pain, TMJ Relief, TMJ TreatmentTMJ disorders are often linked to migraines. Since migraines will eventually affect nearly half the people on the planet at one point during their life, it is important to consider any related conditions to find treatment options.

Most patients who suffer from migraines just end up covering the symptoms with pain pills. However, the trend is shifting to a desire for natural treatments. How does this relate to TMJ?

TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint. This is the joint that connects the jaw and skull. This part of the body is filled with nerves and blood vessels making it a very complex region of the human body. The position of the jaw and the surrounding muscles and tissue are connected to migraines as well as facial pain.

Why See an Upper Cervical Chiropractor?

Getting Relief from TMJ Disorders and Migraines

At Nature Way Chiropractic, we try to kill two birds with one stone, as it were. Using the Blair technique, a specialized form of upper cervical chiropractic care, we treat TMJ pain and migraines by getting to the source of both issues—misalignments of the upper cervical spine.

When the atlas vertebra (C1) becomes misaligned, the muscles around the jaw can shift and move the jaw out of position. The result is an irritation of the facial nerve. By conduction a thorough examination, we can determine if a misalignment is causing a TMJ disorder. Then gentle readjustments can be provided to get the atlas back into its proper position. This takes pressure off of the joint and the facial nerve. As a result, TMJ pain and headaches may improve greatly or go away altogether.
