As a reminder, we are still available for emergency chiropractic services. Effective March 23, 2020 in order to be seen you must meet the following guidelines laid out by Alberta Health Services and are in need of emergent care.

AHS criteria:

  1. Not experiencing fevers, cough, shortness of breath, or cough/cold symptoms
  2. Have not traveled outside of the country in the last 14 days or have had contact with someone who has traveled outside the country in the last 14 days.
  3. Have not had a confirmed exposure to someone diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 14 days.

If you meet these you then must fall under one these categories

Emergent Care Criteria:

1. Are in an acute condition where you would be severely physically limited from basic daily activities without chiropractic care

2. Are in a sub-acute condition that if left untreated would be vulnerable to an acute flare-up that could leave you severely physically limited from basic daily activities.

(Patients who are not experiencing an acute or sub-acute condition as described above, such as someone who has had a slight twinge after their run, are not considered emergent care.)

Thank you for your understanding. We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support and positivity that our amazing community has shown us in the last week.

Dear Natural Way Community,

On many levels this has been a strenuous week for all of us. We’re working through a global crisis, the likes of which not many of us seen.

Our priority, first and foremost, is your health and safety. It was determined today that to reduce the spread of COVID-19, chiropractic offices should put a pause on all non emergency services. To that end, all regular chiropractic appointments will be postponed until further notice. We anticipate this may be as long as 6 weeks, we will keep you up to date with whatever direction we receive for our regulatory board and Alberta Health Services disaster management.

Although regular appointments are not being offered right now, we still intend to support you through this time. We will be offering online workshops and seminars. Dr. Sean is leading daily digital meditation and mini yoga sessions. We will be posting ‘holding exercises’ online that you can easily do at home to support your spine.  Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram, or check our website to access these. The goal of these exercises is to mitigate any loss of momentum with your spinal health that may occur with this pause in your care.

Our team is available for phone and video consultations, should the need arise. Watch for online workshop dates (announced Monday) on a variety of topics to help you get through this tough time and perhaps even contribute to an improvement in your health! The goal of these strategies is to ensure that we can hit the ground running when we get through this very challenging time and you can regain your momentum as quickly as possible.

Of course, we will be available in the event of a chiropractic emergency. In such an event, you can reach our office at 403-246-0334 or

The road ahead is unclear, but with certainty I can assure you Natural Way is here to support you through this time. As soon as the crisis passes we’ll be ready to welcome you through our doors.

To our Natural Way Family,

I wanted to reach out with an update on this incredibly fluid situation.  There has been frequent (hourly!) communication with our provincial regulatory body to ensure that we are leading our team and office with the health and safety of our community as our highest priority.

As you are likely aware, the Government of Alberta has issued a state of emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  This includes mandates regarding closures and restrictions on non-essential businesses for some period of time.  Health care facilities are exempt from this closure at this time.   We are closely monitoring this situation on an hour by hour basis.  Our goal is to serve our community in the safest possible way, while taking a load off the medical care system.  These folks are preparing for the worst and need their resources marshalled and available.  I for one, am incredibly grateful for our physicians, nurses and all allied health professionals willing to step into the breech.

We remain open, in accordance with the guidelines of the provincial government and our provincial regulatory body.   Rest assured, all pandemic precautions around infection prevention and control have been implemented in our office.   In fact, we have gone beyond the basic recommendations as you will see in the previous updates included in this email. I am including a short video to show you the differences you can expect if you do choose to come for a visit.

As you know this situation is very dynamic.  In the context of an ongoing assessment of the risk/benefit, there is the possibility that a closure may occur.  Closure or not, we will be reaching out over the next week with opportunities to connect virtually to bring you complimentary workshops from the comfort of your home, around topics ranging from, what you can do to maintain your momentum with your chiropractic care progress, exercise from home workshops, functional movement workshops etc.  I expect we will all have some time to be uniquely productive over the coming weeks!   Watch for details to follow in the next days and we’ll look forward to seeing your faces online.

For those strictly isolating or in the event of a closure, one of my concerns as a chiropractor is a loss of momentum with your care.  In an effort to mitigate this our plan is to provide you with the gift of 1-4 adjustments in addition to your regular care recommendations that you can receive quickly on the other side of this situation to help you regain any lost momentum as fast as possible.  Natural Way will cover the cost of these, therefore they will not be eligible for insurance reimbursement.  The specific number will be related to individual need.   Watch for details in the weeks to come around this, we will be brainstorming other strategies to help you all get back on track efficiently and with as little burden as possible, keep your eyes peeled.

In accordance with the recommendations of Alberta Health Care we ask that if you are currently having symptoms or have been travelling out of the country you refrain from visiting. And please be sure to complete your 14 day self isolation period should you show any flu-like symptoms.  Give us a call if you have questions about this.

To our Natural Way Tribe,

An update on this unprecedented situation is warranted, I apologize for adding to the very long list of updates I’m sure you’re getting, but the evolution of our circumstances as a community is incredibly rapid. I wanted to keep you up to date on our perspectives around protecting your safety.  This is, and always will be, our number one priority.

It appears we are waking today to a new reality.   As of now Natural Way remains open to serve and support our community.  In addition to our previously posted steps to ensure as safe an environment as possible ( I’ll include these below again) we will be immediately implementing changes to our scheduling that will enable significant social distancing, no more than two people (our waiting area is several meters across) in the waiting area at any one time.  As you would expect any of our team members that are feeling unwell will be self isolating at home and not in the office.

As of now, if you don’t hear anything your appointment time remains the same and is available for you. Should you feel that you want to make a change to your appointment we have staff in the office, please call and we will reschedule your appointment.  We will do whatever is within our power to support your health at this very stressful time.  Our goal will be to provide you with continuity to your care to protect and maintain previous gains as well as bolster your health through any upcoming challenges.

We will continue to update you as quickly as we can based on the recommendations of the College of Chiropractors of Alberta and Alberta Health Services.

I know we are all unsure of the future.  This is a unique time for many of us.  As a community, we can persevere if we stick together and do our best to protect the health of ourselves and all those in the community.

Challenge is a crucible upon which we grow and develop, and for many of us this will be the largest challenge we’ve ever faced.  Coming together as a community and a team will position us to springboard forward on the other side of this crisis.

A Message to our Practice Members and Community,

Our top priority is, and always will be, protecting the health of our patients.

As a chiropractic clinic we take your health and well-being very seriously. We feel it is time to send out an update to all our patients on the status of COVID-19 in Alberta and what we can do to protect ourselves and others, as well as the steps we’re taking in our office to ensure you always have a safe environment to visit.

Several weeks ago, influenza was a greater threat to Albertans because there was very little risk of exposure to COVID-19 cases globally. The global picture has changed, and while the risk of exposure to COVID-19 in Alberta is still low at this time, worldwide the risk is rising.

What does this mean to Albertans? It means that all of us need to be engaged in this response. We need to start thinking about what our new normal will look like over the coming months. We need to consider a balanced response to protect each other now and continue to live our lives.

We can do this by covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands regularly, and most importantly, staying home and away from others when we are sick.

It is time to start greeting each other with elbow bumps or waves instead of handshakes and hugs. This is not an over-reaction, but rather a very practical way of limiting spread of germs.

At Natural Way we are taking proactive steps to ensure we have the safest environment possible for all of our patients and I want to share some of those with you:

–       CLEANING: While our office is frequently cleaned to a very high standard, we have increased our sanitizing and disinfecting procedures on all surfaces that our patients or team come in contact with, for example-door handles, I-pads and computer screens, counter tops etc.

–       MUFFINS: We’re sad to say that we are discontinuing our home baked, organic muffins for the near future. We hate to do this too, but we’ll be back baking again shortly I’m sure!

–       KIDS AREAS: Your children will notice a couple of differences when they come in. Each room will have 1 or 2 easily cleanable toys. We have taken all books, stuffies and other toys away. They will be behind the front desk.

–       TABLES: Frequently disinfecting tables.

–       HAND SANITIZER STATIONS: Multiple hand sanitizing stations set up in the office for patients and our team.

–       AIR HANDLING UNITS: We have taken the significant step of arranging the installation of 2 disinfection units on our air handling system designed to quickly eliminate viruses and bacteria in the air. The air will be fresh and free of viruses every few minutes. These units are typically found in hospital and industrial settings.

–       DOCTOR ROTATION: Our Doctors are taking all personal precaution to avoid exposures and are working in teams over the next weeks to ensure that if anyone is exposed somewhere other than our office or becomes ill with COVID-19 or another more common and likely infection, that we will have Doctors in reserve to care for you.

–       SPECIAL NEEDS CALL-AHEADS: For any of our patients that are vulnerable or immuno-compromised please call us or arrange when you’re in for us to schedule a time outside of our regular visitation times so that the office is very quiet and we can pre-sanitize the room prior to arrival and whisk you in and out! We are happy to do this for you.

–       TEAM: You can rest assured that our entire team is healthy and if we are under the weather we will not be in the office.

This includes some of the significant actions we’re taking to make Natural Way the safest environment that you will be able to find anywhere!

Keep in mind these steps are above and beyond. Consider the recommendations from Alberta Health Services as your basic lines of defense:

–       Wash your hands often and well

–       Avoid touching your face, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands

–       Clean and disinfect surfaces that are frequently touched

–       When sick, cover your cough and sneezes and then wash your hands

–       If you feel ill, consider staying at home and away from others

–       AHS is asking those who feel ill to call 811 prior to visiting a hospital or clinic for care, if there is an immediate need for medical care call 911

Together, we can protect each other and keep our communities healthy.
